Hyrox Elite majors:
2023 - 2024 / 2024 - 2025 seasons
HYROX is an indoor fitness competition that combines 8km of running and eight functional workout stations, alternating between running and functional exercises, with races held across the globe.
Hyrox needed comprehensive multi-camera coverage of both the Men’s and Women’s Elite Races. This was to be broadcast live online on their YouTube channel. With such a large event space, and the sheer scale of covering each km run, it was requested that InspoHub provide a multi-camera solution. One of those being a camera setup that could sit on a motorised tricycle and capture the runners.
There needed to be a combination of camera solutions and positions that captured the scale and wide-angle content of all participants at any given time. These methods of capture also needed to get up close and personal with the athletes on the court. The client wanted more than just coverage, they wanted viewers to feel part of the race themselves.
The client also required a bespoke and on-brand graphics package, which was designed myself. programmed by a live operator who had datapoints set across the track, these designs covered all bases of the potentially confusing sport: showing different stages of the race, rankings, timings and distance covered, incorporate sponsorship and other features to tell the story.

These graphics were crucial in helping the audience understand the narrative of the race at any time they join the live stream.
The broadcast also required on-site commentary, as well as a live feed to go to the event's big screens in the event space. To kick off the show there was a live studio segment, hosted by the commentary team. To end the stream, cameras needed to return to the studio position to capture interviews with the medalists.

the result is a 13 to 17-camera setup depending on the market and the venue layout. This is a mix of operated and robotic cameras, including a steadicam and jib that captured the most dynamic content from each workout and run. Cameras are integrated into a fully managed broadcast setup, overseen by InspoHub. The crew has stretched from 7 for the first major event to the biggest team yet of 23 people in Hong Kong.

for the 2024-2025 season, my particular role broadened to become the main on-site video editor for elite races. in addition to designing and updating graphics and animations prior to each event, my focus was to edit videos and athlete interviews for the pre-show, create clips for social media from the live feed during the race itself, create highlight pieces for each race to play during the live show, and to edit various other videos such as extended highlights for posting after each race.
as the sport's popularity has broadened, we have worked to create more progressively ambitious live shows with each major race. one key area we wanted to improve on for the 2024-2025 season, is to more clearly show the variation in locations each event was being held. we wanted to create video pieces that worked not just to interview featured athletes, but to show their personalities across the screen.
